In AviSys you have several modes of date entry. You use the mode that seems right to you or that fits the kind of work you are doing at the moment.
On the left of the date dialog is a typical keyboard date entry dialog. But notice that the date can also be entered by "spinning" the three date elements up and down.
On the right is a graphical calendar date entry dialog. You can enter the year by selecting the current or prior year buttons, or by "spinning" the year in. You enter the month by clicking the appropriate numbered month button, or by spinning the month in. You click on the desired day in the calendar. You can select the elements in any sequence.
In any case, the two sides of the dialog stay in sync, so changes you make on the right are reflected on the left, and vice versa.
