The AviSys 3.x to 4.5 Conversion
Pickle Fixer
The conversion from version 3.x (DOS) to 4.x or 5.x or 6x is usually done on a computer slower than 700MHZ, simply because the person converting is running the old version, and that version runs only on slower computers. Even if the user has purchased a new computer, he or she usually has the old computer with AviSys 3.x installed and running, and does the conversion there before moving to AviSys 4, 5, or 6 on the new computer.
Occasionally, a user will move 3.x to the new computer and
not try to run it. Not knowing 3.x won't run, the user destroys
the old computer, and is now in a pickle
-- neither 3.x nor the conversion program will run on the only
computer the user has, and the user's data
is trapped!
This is the pickle fixer: copy
the two files from the links below. After following the instructions
for setting up for the conversion and installing the conversion
facility by running RUNME, copy these two files to the conversion
folder, overwriting the existing files of the same name.
The new copies of AviSys 3.5 N.A., AVISYS.EXE, and the conversion
program, WCONVERT.EXE, will now run on the new computer, and you
can make database correctons and convert your data to the new
world format for 4.5. After the conversion, however, you will
not be able to run the new 3.5 World version -- but don't
worry, be happy, you can do
the backup with BU2A and carry the new converted data over to
Version 4 or 5, per the instructions. (If you are already using 3.5 World, this conversion is not necessary -- you just do the backup and carry it to 4, 5, or 6)
You need to download both of the following files (you may
need to right-click and select Save-to-File):
