Master Checklist Update from Update File

There is a new item in the Utils menu - Master Checklist Update (from Update File). Initially, this item is disabled. At times in the future we may post updates to the Master Checklist on our web site. When you download an update file and place it in your data set folder, this menu item will become enabled. When selected, it will automatically update your Master Checklist to include major taxonomy changes. After the update, the menu item is disabled again.

Generally, when species splits and name changes are announced, we simply post instructions to perform those actions manually, which is very easy to do. When there are major taxonomy changes, we will post them as update files.

Since the update file is simply a re-named Master Checklist, the combination of this feature and the following feature allows anybody to update a Master Checklist to include future taxonomy changes and post it on the internet so all AviSys users can update their programs.* This ensures that, even if the producer of AviSys goes out of business, automatic taxonomy updates will be available. This level of safety for the future is Another AviSys Exclusive!

(Uh, there's nothing prophetic about that going out of business statement -- this business is too much fun!)

Furthermore, to make major updates to the AviSys taxonomy the easiest of all listing software, we have a special, public domain facility, EditMaster, that can be used by anybody. For information on the AviSys facilities for major taxonomy changes and possible long term public support of the AviSys taxonomy, click AviSys Facilities for Major Taxonomy Updates. No other listing software can match the long-term safety and stability of AviSys when it comes to accommodating major taxonomy changes in the future -- with, or without, the involvement of the AviSys publisher. Another AviSys Exclusive!

* The AviSys Master Checklist is copyrighted. Distribution of it or any copyrighted AviSys file is prohibited until such time as Perceptive Systems should announce permission to do so.

Renumber Master Checklist

When you start to add new species to the Master Checklist, there are two empty places between each bird in the list. If, by adding birds, you fill the space between two species, you can instantly create additional space by selecting Utils / Renumber Master Checklist, after which there will again be two empty spaces between every bird in the list, including the ones you just added.
