In spite of the considerable criticism over the years, and the exceptional example set by the Stoke's Field Guides, the National Geographic Field Guide publishers did not see fit to include quick indexes on the inside covers of the new Third Edition and Fourth Edition of the guide. This oversight ensures that the guides will continue to be very difficult to use. To correct the problem, we are providing indexes that can be cut out and taped into the front and/or back covers of the new guide. They come in two editions each in Microsoft Word 97, Microsoft Word 6 / 95, WordPerfect 6,7,8 and Adobe Acrobat 3, documents.
If you have trouble getting the document for your word processor to format properly on your printer (particularly ink-jet printers), or if you don't have one of those word processors, try the Adobe Acrobat version -- see below.

This quick index is 5 inches wide by 8.5 inches high. It is designed to be taped to the rear flyleaf (over the western North America map) or the inside rear cover (over the eastern North America map). It has 224 index entries for major bird groups and families.
