The state and province checklists provided with AviSys are thoroughly researched, and were the most complete and accurate available on the date you received the program. Those checklists were compiled by Anthony White, a well known birding author, and for years the acknowledged expert on regional checklists. He utilizes contacts with hundreds of birding and ornithology professionals and state checklist committee members, and studies countless professional publications, to produce the checklist updates.
The distribution status of birds is continually changing. It seems that each day a bird is added to, or removed from, some state checklist, particularly in states that birders frequently visit, such as Texas, California, New Jersey, and Arizona. When you are traveling, if you don't know what to look for you're not likely to find it. And when you aren't traveling, studying the dynamics of bird distribution is illuminating and enjoyable.
Semi-annual North America state and province checklist updates are available by subscription directly from Tony. The updates are thoroughly documented, with interesting information about the latest changes. They are sent to you by EMail in June and November, and the actual updates to your copy of AviSys can be done either by downloading an automatic update utility from a special web site, or manually by using the State CL facility. The first automated update will bring your checklists completely up to date, regardless how far behind you've gotten.
